About Me

I’m a technical UX designer with an interdisciplinary background in human-centered design and computer programming. I discovered the field of user-experience when I took an introductory design course while studying computer science as a freshman. My eyes were opened to user-centric thinking and I began to notice the need for more usable experiences in products that I used daily. This inspired to pursue a bachelor's degree from the University of Washington’s Human Centered Design & Engineering Program. Here I learned how to discover user needs with various research methods and then transform them into intuitive user-experiences by applying visual communication principles.

So far I have  leveraged my skill set to drive the design strategy of two successful startups as a senior in college (Read about them here and here). Currently I design app-exclusive experiences for Best Buy's mobile to help boost acquisition and retention of app users.

Hobbies

Aside from my career, I spend my time enjoying a variety of hobbies that continue to challenge my ability to problem solve.

Reading

I believe reading is essential for us to understand ourselves, our crafts and the world around us with a depth that other media do not provide. I try to read about current trends in design thinking however, I particularly enjoy science fiction as well.  Here are some books that have shaped my thinking in regards to design, technology and life in general.

Jiu Jitsu

I have been a practitioner of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, the gentle art for 5 years. This sport has been a vehicle of personal growth for me. The friendly and collaborative atmosphere at my gyms have fostered team spirit. The sheer variety of techniques available for one to learn showed me how to identify my own strengths while the rapid, fast paced nature of competition has taught me how to problem-solve under pressure and remain vigilant.

Podcasts

I love listening to podcasts while driving or when I am winding down for the day. While science, technology and design remain the forefront of what I mostly listen to, I do enjoy exploring other topics such as health & fitness, history, true crime through this medium. Here are some that I regularly tune in to.

The Outdoors

I love enjoying the variety of outdoor experiences that the state of Washington has to offer. I frequently go hiking/camping in the summer time and am starting to try my hand at climbing as well. I find that when I am stuck on a particular design problem, spending time in nature can often bring me back with the clarity of mind to solve it.

Gaming

Gaming has been a constant throughout my life. Not only does it provide me with a healthy way to unwind with my friends, but the sheer variety of gaming experiences inspire me to solve complex problems through design

Gaming

Gaming has been a constant throughout my life. I find video games to be highly compelling as they blend gamification with the detailed narratives of novels and the visuals and set-pieces of film. Below are some of my favorite games that have impacted me through their stories, visuals and challenges.
